What we do
“Opportunity Knocks” is a life changing multi-agency project managed by Widows
and Orphans International as a part of a wider programme funded by the Local
Enterprise Growth Initiative (LEGI). This project seeks to assist individuals towards
taking up self employment and self advancement opportunities available in the
London Borough of Barking and Dagenham.
Who is the project for?
- Everybody living within the Borough of Barking and Dagenham.
- Anyone intending to establish or currently operating a business within the borough.
- People of Black and Minority Ethnic Background (BAME)
- Young people
- Women
- Unemployed People
- People on Disability Living allowance

Widows and Orphans International, Ethnic Minority Partnership Agency, Soar Ahead and African Youth League are organisations currently engaging the local community of Barking and Dagenham in socioeconomic, health promoting and cultural development activities. We are all working together as a consortium in this project to reduce poverty, build self confidence and inculcate enterprise culture among local residents especially of BAME groups in order to improve their active participation in the life of their community. As a consortium our object is to share resources and expand our provision of employment, training, development and support especially for BAME residents in the Borough of Barking and Dagenham.
